CVC Meets Harlingen Lions
A member of the Rio Grande State Center Citizens Volunteer Council gave the Harlingen Lions an update on what has been happening at the State Center at the Lions’ Thursday noon meeting at Golden Palms in Harlingen. John Hand, accompanied by Community Relations Director Terri Lievanos, gave a presentation on improvements designed to improve the quality of life for the residents of the Rio Grande State Center.
Hand, a three-year member of the Citizens Volunteer Council, described how the CVC has been able to assist the Center in such initiatives as the Room Beautification Project, the Community Garden, and amenities for the Mental Health Center.Hand also described the need for further funds in order to continue the current initiatives, as well as ongoing financial needs for clothing, educational materials, and day trips to places like the zoo or movies. The Lions expressed strong interest in helping the CVC with its summer fundraiser, the Chalupa Fest in San Benito, scheduled for August 26 of this year.
